Convert DBC to JSON online
A JSON representation of a CAN database plugs straight into simulation harnesses, logging pipelines and test automation. Drop your .dbc file and export a clean, hierarchical JSON — messages, signals, scaling, units and value descriptions — without uploading the file anywhere.
- Hierarchical: messages contain their signals — no joins needed
- Numbers stay numbers: factor/offset are exported as numeric types
- Value descriptions become a name → label map
- Ideal input for CAPL, Python and Rust CAN tooling
How it works
- 1Open the DBC viewer and drop your .dbc file.
- 2Click Export and choose JSON. The current preview exports the first 20 rows.
- 3Full export and batch conversion will be available when Pro launches.
Frequently asked questions
Why JSON instead of CSV?
CSV is flat and loses nesting; JSON keeps the message → signal hierarchy and typed numbers, which is what scripts and simulators want.
Is the JSON schema documented?
The export is self-describing: message objects carry id, extended, dlc, cycleTime and a signals array with every DBC property.
Can I convert JSON back to DBC?
Round-tripping is on the roadmap; today CANpeek converts DBC → JSON/CSV/XLSX and reads A2L databases.
Your file never leaves your browser
CANpeek parses DBC and A2L files entirely client-side — there is no upload step, no account, and nothing stored. There is currently no paid product; full export is planned for Pro.
